Sports tourism brought more than $60 million to Huntsville last year, per the latest data.
Why it matters: The Rocket City is seeing returns on major sports facility and program investments that draw higher-profile events along with the resulting hotel rooms, restaurant visits and other local economic impacts.
The big picture: Sports-related events generated $62.3 million in 2025, as well as $4.06 million in local tax revenue, according to the Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Huntsville Sports Commission.
It's the second year in a row that number has passed $50 million, and the fourth record-breaking year in a row, per a news release.
What they're saying: "Setting a record in economic impact for the fourth straight year is a testament to the momentum we've built," Joel Lamp, sports development manager for the CVB, said in the announcement.
By the numbers: More than 161,000 athletes, coaches and spectators made the trip to Huntsville for a total of 71 events last year.

Zoom out: By venue, the Von Braun Center and Propst Arena reigned supreme, brining in more than $11.4 million, followed by John Hunt Park ($9.1 million) and Huntsville Aquatics Center ($6 million).
What we're watching: Big investments and first-time events are on the horizon for the area and will likely bolster these numbers, including the $44 million Ice Sports Center upgrade and the SEC Softball Championship.
