The first banner marking America's 250th anniversary went up in Huntsville Monday.
The big picture: It's a visible kick-off to Huntsville's extensive plans celebrating the country's semiquicentennial.
Zoom in: Sponsored by Huntsville's five Daughters of the American Revolution chapters, 36 banners will go up across various parts of the city soon.
"Madison County has more (Revolutionary War) patriots," who lived in and are buried in Madison, "than any other county in the state by threefold," said Penny Sumners, with Twickenham Town Chapter DAR. "We're the place to be now, and we were the place to be back then."
The DAR chapters were able to secure a state grant to fund the banners, said Sally Warden, chair of the committee leading the city's celebration.
What they're saying: "We have a ton of activities that are going on right now through May, June, July β especially July 4, this is going to be the place to be," Warden said.
