A historic corner of downtown Huntsville has officially entered a new era.
The big picture: The Lewter District cut the ribbon yesterday on its $50 million mixed-use development, including a five-story office building, 14 luxury townhomes and the reuse of the Lewter Hardware building.
What they're saying: "Downtowns are not accidental," said David Hecht, of developer Emergent Properties. "They're intentional. They change, they evolve over time and they require stewardship, and that's a responsibility that we took very seriously as we put this project together."
"That's a harder kind of project to put on: To come into a part of our historic downtown, respect what was there before, recognize what it was, and leverage the value of that history into a whole new life," said John Hamilton, city administrator.
