Boeing and the U.S. Department of Defense have agreed to a seven-year framework to triple production of PAC-3 seekers, which the company manufactures in Huntsville.
Why it matters: The move will mean hundreds of new jobs in Huntsville, a Boeing spokesperson told Axios, as air defense demand rises across the globe.
How it works: The seeker is the guidance system for the PAC-3 missile, and the agreement will facilitate a major increase in the supply of seekers, Boeing says.
It's part of a "broader effort to place the acquisition system on a 'wartime footing,' prioritizing speed and flexibility to outpace adversaries," the announcement says.
Catch up quick: Boeing has invested more than $200 million in the past two years to expand its PAC-3 Seeker production in Huntsville, the company says, including a 35,000-square-foot expansion.
