The Microwave Dave Graduation Celebration will be 4pm May 17 at the Von Braun Center's Propst Arena.
The big picture: On Wednesday, the Microwave Dave Music Education Foundation invited folks to "gather in music, reflection and a shared appreciation for the life of Dave Gallaher."
- The Huntsville music legend died in early February.
Zoom in: The free public event will highlight his legacy as a musician, mentor and educator, the Foundation said in an announcement.
- Its name comes from Gallaher's own view of death as a transition, a graduation into what comes next.
- The event will feature live music, tributes and opportunities for the community to celebrate Microwave Dave's life and his contributions to music in Huntsville.
What they're saying: "This celebration is an opportunity for our community to come together in the spirit Dave embodied," said the Foundation's managing director, Natalie Bishnoi, in the statement.
- "Music, connection, and lifting up others were at the heart of everything he did, and this event reflects that."
Commemorative T-shirts and tote bags are being produced in partnership with Green Pea Press, with proceeds supporting the Foundation, which brings music into classrooms and creates opportunities for students to learn and grow through music.
