The big picture: After some unseasonably warm March weather, a strong cold front is ushering in a couple days of unseasonably cold March weather.
Zoom in: At time of writing Friday afternoon, today's forecast calls for a high near 46 and a low of 24.
Tomorrow's high is near 45 and low around 29.
By the numbers: That's around 15-20 degrees below the norm, Huntir Cramer, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Huntsville, tells Axios, nearing record lows for the area.
The normal March 16 temperatures for Huntsville are a high of 65 and low of 42.2. March 17's normals are 65.3 and 42.4.
The record lows for those two days were 20 in 1911 and 21 in 1956, per NWS.
How it works: "We've got a cold front moving through the area on Monday morning," she said. "Ahead of that, we are expecting a medium chance of some severe storms through the Tennessee Valley."
It's normal to see severe storms in March, along cold fronts specifically, Cramer said.
Yes, but: Temperatures should be back up in the 70s on Thursday, and rain chances are looking low for the next week or so.
