Britt fielded questions from reporters Wednesday morning, hitting recent headlines before taking to the Senate floor to debate DHS funding.
Surprise submarine plant
Sen. Tommy Tuberville broke the news in Huntsville earlier this week, and Rep. Robert Aderholt further elaborated, on plans to transform a former railcar plant near Muscle Shoals into a Hadrian submarine component manufacturing facility.
Asked about it on a call, Britt said, "I thought we were not supposed to talk about it yet."
But now that the news is out, she said, the project should bring 1,000-plus manufacturing jobs, and is part of "reimagining and elevating and updating our naval fleet ... and ship-building capacities."
Power bills vs AI
On keeping Alabamian's power bills low, Britt pointed to expanding domestic energy production and finding a way to win the AI race, "but not at personal expense to them."
USCG at BSC
On the U.S. Coast Guard's deal to buy the now-closed Birmingham-Southern College campus for a training center, she said "We're going to work hand-in-glove" with the community as it progresses.
The more the Birmingham community welcomes the Coast Guard, "the more opportunity we're going to have moving forward," she said. "I have no doubt everybody will step up."
