Why it matters: After some remarkably cold weather, Huntsville is thawing out this week, even if the warmer weather will bring some storms.
Catch up quick: Temperatures are shy of the 75-to 80-degree records for the area this time of year, but the last couple of days have been 10- to 15-degrees higher than normal.
Kurt Weber, meteorologist at the National Weather Service's Huntsville office, said 55 to 57 are normal highs for Huntsville around Feb. 10-15.
An approaching cold front is going to cool things off some, he told Axios.
Zoom in: The latest forecast calls for a return closer to normal mid-February weather: a high of 60 today, 59 on Thursday, 60 on Friday and 62 on Valentine's Day Saturday.
But it's bringing a 70% chance of rain today and likely rain for Saturday, with a 40% chance during the day and a 90% chance for Saturday night that could turn into an overnight thunderstorm.
āļø The bottom line: Planning something special for Valentine's Day Saturday? Take an umbrella.
Weber says thunderstorms over the weekend are a good bet, with up to 2 inches of rain expected.
