The 2026 college football season will kick off in Huntsville this fall.
Why it matters: Huntsville continues to invest in sports facilities and pursue (and land) big-ticket events, drawing in visitors and giving locals a chance to catch a game without the drive.
Zoom in: The University of North Alabama and Samford University, will play at Joe Davis Stadium at 6pm Aug. 29, 2026.
The game will join other major sports events this fall, like the UCI Paracycling World Championships, AVCA Beach National Pairs Championship, and NJCAA Cross Country and Mens and Women's Soccer National Championships.
What they're saying: "This is a tremendous matchup to start the 2026 season here in Huntsville," said Joel Lamp, sports development manager for the Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau, in an announcement.
Bringing college football to Joe Davis Stadium has been a goal, he said, and the game "allows us to showcase our city in a different light, make an economic impact, and give our community a new event to enjoy."
