The North Village Town Center in North Huntsville is already moving forward on its next phase.
Why it matters: The deal is piling more options onto the $240-million development that's bringing a shopping destination to North Huntsville on par with Valley Bend at Jones Farm.
Catch up quick: Huntsville approved a land sale to Hank Holdings last week that's paving the way for more retail and restaurant offerings, per Shane Davis, director of urban and economic development.
The firm has retail and restaurants lined up, he said, and once the sale is finalized, they'll be announced.
Zoom in: The city purchased around 17 acres for about $3.27 million last May, Davis said, about 1.5 of which is set to be added to the Home Depot/Target part of the development.
The remaining 15.23 acres constitutes the $3.27 million sale approved last week, essentially recouping what the city spent on the property, Davis said.
What they're saying: "I don't think people understand the impact of what's going on here," said Michelle Watkins, District 1 council member representing the area. "I'm very excited about the new restaurants, new shopping areas."
Zoom out: The city also approved a $215,400 contract with Schoel Engineering Thursday night, for engineering, design and construction administration services for the project.
It includes roughly 40 acres of surveying, roadways, drainage and utilities at the southwest corner of the Northern Bypass and Memorial Parkway, per the agenda.
What we're watching: "We're also working on phase three," Davis said, adding he'll be coming back to the council later this year on it.
