It's full steam ahead for the Big Spring Park expansion.
Why it matters: Huntsville approved a nearly $12.5-million contract with Fite Construction for Big Spring Park East Thursday night, set to further improve the city's marquee gathering space.
How it works: Officials are initially targeting project completion by the end of the year on the 2.4-acre former city hall site.
The contract approved Thursday night stipulates final completion within 400 days.
Ricky Wilkinson, director of general services, told City Council work should start next month with the goal to be open by Panoply Arts Festival 2027.

Catch up quick: City planners approved the location, character and extent of the project back in June.
Zoom in: A lower plaza near the pavilion area is set to include hangout spaces, an overlook, tables for lunch or games, an area for wedding receptions or other private events, and even space for buskers.
A master plan presented to council in February shows an ADA-accessible switchback walkway, playground, plaza with shade trees and water feature along Fountain Circle and public art.
