Madison Hospital is closing its Wellness Center Jan. 4.
Why it matters: As the area grows, Madison Hospital is converting the Wellness Center space to host the hospital's breast center, imaging and other services.
Zoom out: Madison is growing in population at a comparable rate to Huntsville, adding more than 7,000 residents between 2020-2024, per the city, an increase of 12.5% in four years.
What they're saying: "We have no more space in the building to open new services," said Mary Lynne Wright, president of Madison Hospital, in a video released Monday.
She said it was a "very difficult decision to close the Wellness Center," and that the hospital is working with other nearby facilities to redirect folks who use the center.
Zoom in: The renovated space will be home to breast cancer, cardiology, MRI, CAT Scan, ultrasound, general imaging and pulmonary rehab services, as well as a pharmacy open to both employees and the public.
"We're going to expand the breast center in Madison Hospital," Wright said, calling it exciting and needed. "If your doctor has found something, you don't want to wait."
