The Land Trust of North Alabama has received donations totaling the $300,000 it needed to buy a 65-acre parcel on Green Mountain.
Why it matters: The tract secures a key connection within the Land Trust's expanding River to Gap corridor, per an announcement Tuesday, linking two existing parcels, strengthening habitat and protecting water resources.
What they're saying: "This achievement reflects the incredible passion our community has for protecting North Alabama's natural spaces," said Hallie Porter, development director for the Land Trust, in the release.
Zoom in: The parcel runs from the south of Box Canyon Road to Green Mountain Road, connecting to Land Trust property to the south of Green Mountain Road.
The bottom line: Securing this link represents a significant step toward completing the Land Trust's River to Gap vision, the release says, which aims to establish a continuous conservation corridor from the Tennessee River to Blevins Gap.
