The Madison County Sportsplex at Sharon Johnston Park is about halfway done and on schedule for a Memorial Day weekend 2026 opening.
Why it matters: The county continues developing the site on Coleman Road in New Market into a destination.
- The park already includes everything from a disc golf course and swimming pool to a shooting range and 5K course.
Zoom in: Plans include a 13-foot-deep, Olympic-sized pool with pool house and locker rooms, restrooms and concession area.
- Two gyms will offer pickleball, basketball and volleyball, and feature an upstairs walking track.
- Several community rooms will be available for reservation, and there'll also be an exercise room for group classes and activities. Another concession stand is set for the first floor.
What they're saying: "It will help alleviate the growing pains of the four other recreation centers located in District One," said Tom Brandon, district one commissioner, in the announcement.
