Attorney and business owner Will Pylant announced his bid for Huntsville City Council District 4 Thursday.
Why it matters: Huntsville's next municipal election is set for Aug. 25, 2026, as the city continues grappling with issues surrounding its explosive growth.
Zoom in: Owner of Pyland Estate Law, he says in an announcement that his campaign "centers on ensuring that the city's rapid growth is guided by vision and grounded in practical improvements that matter to residents."
- Pylant's list of priorities include funding for major roadway projects, particularly the I-565/Memorial Parkway interchange and improving neighborhood infrastructure.
What they're saying: "This is my hometown," Plyant said in the release. "I'm not going anywhere. I'm raising a family here, building a business here, and planning to grow here."
Context: District 4, which includes downtown and the areas south and west of downtown, from roughly Highway 72 to Martin Road, has been represented by Bill Kling since 1988.
- Kling confirmed to Axios Huntsville Thursday that he plans to run for reelection, pointing to "a lot of great things taking place in the community and district," like Space Command, new restaurants downtown and more.
- Kling, who said he's walked 950 miles in district neighborhoods in the last year, noted a plan in the works to spend more than $500 million on major roads, a planned enlargement of the 565/Parkway interchange, the Northern Bypass and other pieces of the larger bypass project.
