After several months closed for HVAC system upgrades, the Huntsville Museum of Art is reopening Sunday, Aug. 31 at noon.
Why it matters: The museum is a staple in downtown Huntsville, and to celebrate the reopening, will host the Betsy and Peter Lowe Community Free Day, offering free admission noon-5pm.
Catch up quick: The museum closed in early March to install a new HVAC system and humidity regulation system.
Those upgrades are crucial for industry-standard environmental conditions required to host exhibitions from around the world, according to an announcement from the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce.
Staff also redesigned layouts to better highlight the permanent collections, with Chief Curator Natalie Mault Mead saying, "We want the experience to spark new connections and invite deeper engagement with the art."
What they're saying: "We already have several compelling shows lined up for 2025 and 2026, including the photography exhibit Days of Punk – Photographs by Michael Grecco, which opens on Oct. 17," said Executive Director Christopher Madkour in Monday's announcement.
Zoom in: The museum's "Keep it Cool Challenge" fundraising effort beat its $50,000 goal to cover expenses during the closure, totaling $51,621.93 as of Aug. 1, per the museum.
