Huntsville planners to preview Big Spring Park expansion

• A master plan presented to the City Council in February shows multiple plazas, an ADA-accessible switchback walkway, small playground, water features and public art.

Set for the 2.4-acre site of the city administration building (known as city hall) between Fountain Circle and Church Street, plans also include restrooms and a green-roofed pavilion.

Zoom out: "Because Big Spring Park is literally and figuratively, in spirit, the center of our city, it gets a lot of attention from everybody throughout our city and the region," City Administrator John Hamilton told the council in February.

• There's still "a lot of design work to be done," he said, noting significant elevation changes on the site that will be leveraged for separate spaces in the design.

What's next: City officials hope to start construction in August or September, targeting a late 2026 completion.
