If World Cup tickets are out of your price range (unfortunately, that includes many of us) or you simply want to avoid the Hard Rock Stadium crowd, you can still participate in the fun at numerous watch parties around town.

Here's a list of events and places in Broward County to have on your radar:

🌭 American Social: The Las Olas restaurant will be airing games all tournament long with drink and food specials including red, white and wagyu dogs, empanadas and pigs in a blanket topped with caviar. 

🍸 The Fitz Bar & Lounge: Drinks will certainly be flowing. Sip on $10 Casamigos Blanco and $8 Ketel One drinks. 

⚽️ Mickey Byrne's Irish Pub: The Hollywood go-to soccer viewing destination will offer food and drink specials during the tournament. 

🍕 Patio Bar & Pizza: Enjoy brick-oven sourdough pizza, happy hour specials and every game on the outdoor and indoor big screens.

🥃 Waxy's Irish Pub: The Irish pub is offering a special World Cup match menu with food and drink specials throughout the tournament. 

Waxy's is hosting a soccer shootout on Saturday for a chance to win two tickets to the Brazil vs. Scotland matchup.

🍻 Gulf Stream Brewing Company: Watch every game while sipping on beer and eating artisan pizza in the taproom beginning Friday. 

🌮 La Mexicana Taco Bar: Enjoy a DJ, tacos and the beer and Jose Cuervo sparkling margarita bucket special on the patio.

🍺 LauderdAle Brewery: The Fort Lauderdale brewery is hosting free watch parties all tournament long with beer specials, food trucks and indoor and outdoor seating. 

📺 Tin Roof: The live music bar and restaurant will offer game day bites and drink specials, including free Jell-O shots for those wearing their team jerseys. 

We can't forget about the 32 TVs and projector screen.

🎉 Downtown Hollywood: The city of Hollywood is hosting two free, family-friendly watch parties in downtown with retail vendors, food trucks, big screens and live music. Festivities begin at 4:30pm.

🏟️ Amerant Bank Arena: The county and the Florida Panthers are hosting four free public watch parties at the Sunrise arena. Tickets are available via SeatGeek or the Amerant Bank Arena website.  

🍔 Smorgasburg: The weekly open-air food market in Fort Lauderdale is hosting the free World Grub series with special collaborations, live music, guest vendors, giveaways and family-friendly activities every Saturday and Sunday from this weekend to July 19 (3pm–6pm).

Fort Lauderdale is emerging as South Florida's next dining destination with several new restaurant openings on the horizon.

Why it matters: The city's rapid redevelopment is attracting major hospitality groups and restaurant brands.

From Miami hot spots to your next go-to smashburger joint, here's what's opening in Fort Lauderdale this fall and winter.

Caviar Club: Marc Falsetto's 1980s-inspired luxury steakhouse, restaurant, and cocktail lounge will offer an upscale version of American classics. 

It is slated to open sometime in the fall. 

Sweetwaters: This fall, the owners of Miami institution Rusty Pelican are opening Sweetwaters, a three-story waterfront restaurant in the newly renovated Huizenga Park.

Peppi's Pizza: The popular cheesesteak and pizza spot in the Miami Design District is opening off Sunrise Boulevard this September.

Pizza Queen: Falsetto Hospitality, the group behind Caviar Club, is doubling down on Fort Lauderdale with the debut of a New York-style slice shop at the former site of Dammiano's Cafe and Bistro, according to Miami New Times.

Falsetto told New Times that he was inspired by New York hot spots L'Industrie and Mama's Too.

Amal: Popular Coconut Grove Lebanese restaurant Amal, known for its mezze dishes, will be opening on Las Olas in late 2026, Miami New Times reported.

NAIA: The restaurant group behind YOLO, Boatyard and S3 will open NAIA at the former home of Mango's on Las Olas in October.

The menu will feature Mediterranean cuisine with Asian influences, The Restaurant People wrote on Instagram.

Skinny Louie: The smashburger spot, which first opened in Miami's Wynwood neighborhood, is opening on Las Olas later this year.

It was named Miami's best burger at the South Beach Wine & Food Festival in 2025.

La Felicità: Las Olas is getting a new Italian restaurant in what was once B Square Burgers.

Whit's Frozen Custard: The frozen custard shop is opening in Oakland Park this fall, according to WhatNow.

Whits is best known for the "Whitser," frozen custard blended with your choice of toppings.

Custards include vanilla, chocolate, and a rotating weekly flavor (or sometimes a daily flavor).

The Florida Panthers are entering an unfamiliar offseason after missing the playoffs for the first time in seven years. 

Why it matters:  Florida must decide whether to re-sign veteran goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky before free agency opens July 1.

Rumors swirled around the goalie before the trade deadline but the team ultimately opted to hold onto the 37-year-old despite looming free agency. 

Bobrovsky, who turns 38 in September, is coming off his worst statistical season of his 16-year career with a .877 save percentage. 

What they're saying: "I'd like to keep him. I hope we can. We'll see what happens," general manager Bill Zito told The Athletic in April.

"We cannot lose him," star forward Matthew Tkachuk told reporters at the end-of-year press conference. "He's our guy. He is going to get us back to where we want to be."

State of play:  The core of the Panthers team is locked down for next season including captain Aleksander Barkov, Tkachuk, Sam Reinhart and defenseman Seth Jones, the Miami Herald reported. 

Along with Bobrovsky, other unrestricted free agents include forwards A.J. Greer, Tomas Nosak and backup goalie Danil Tarasov.

Among the restricted free agents are Mackie Samoskevich, Michael Benning, Donovan Sebrango. 

By the numbers: The Panthers are projected to have $13.8 million in cap space and hold seven picks in the 2026 NHL Draft including the No. 9 overall pick. 

The bottom line: Florida's chances of returning to the top of the Atlantic Division may rest on  decisions made in the coming weeks.

Here's the latest round of Fort Lauderdale development news: 

🥒 The City of Fort Lauderdale Commission approved the $2.5-million redesign of Fort Lauderdale Beach Park across from Bahia Mar.

The project will bring four pickleball courts to the beach, add artificial turf for lounging and yoga, renovate the existing basketball courts and install new fitness equipment, picnic tables and grills further south on the beach. 

💍 Weston Jewelers' five-story luxury project on Las Olas has been unanimously approved by the Fort Lauderdale City Commission despite pushback from downtown residents. 

The high-end jewelry store is set to open in December 2027, according to the Sun Sentinel.

🏗️ The foundation pour was completed at Sage Intracoastal Residences Fort Lauderdale last week, a 28-story water condo building at 900 Intracoastal Drive, Florida YIMBY reported. 

🛥️ The historic Pier Sixty-Six resort is expected to submit plans this summer for the project's second phase, South Florida Business Journal reported. 

The project will feature four buildings with 339 units.
