Magie brings its laid-back wine bar to Fort Lauderdale

• It joins locations in Miami's Little River and Coconut Grove neighborhoods.

What they're saying: Co-owner Caroline Strauss tells Axios they were initially looking to expand to Charleston and Tampa before a space became available in Fort Lauderdale.

• "The space we found is quirky and weird, and I think that fits Magie so well," Strauss says. "Fort Lauderdale kind of fell in our lap."
• She notes that Fort Lauderdale has fostered unique homegrown concepts, pointing to Sidewalk Bottle Shop and The Katherine.

• "A small, local, loved thing is very cool, and I think Fort Lauderdale is a lot more loving to that, where Miami kind of wants the clubstaurants," Strauss tells Axios.

The vibe: The 1,4000-square-foot space will offer a vast selection of wine and co-owner and Chef Ivan Barros' elevated snack menu of caviar dino nuggets, charcuterie boards, escargot, truffle grilled cheese and Caesar fries.

• Strauss emphasizes that they want Magie to have a consistent brand identity: "If you have an experience in Coconut Grove, you should have the same experience in Fort Lauderdale."
• She describes the spot as a hidden speakeasy with a laid-back vibe.

What to expect: Daily happy hours, bottomless wine experiences, singles nights, craft nights and pop-ups, and collaborations with local businesses.

• "We're newcomers to Fort Lauderdale, and we want to be really open to that," Strauss tells Axios.
• "We don't know the neighborhood. We don't know our neighbors, so we're not trying to come in and be like, 'We're the hot new thing in Fort Lauderdale.' We're definitely trying to come in and be like, 'OK, where do we fit?"
