Wan's Chinese classics taste just as good as I remember

I love Chinese food, so when Wan's invited me to come to its 60th anniversary celebrations, I couldn't say no.
Why it matters: I have vivid memories of family dinners at Wan's as a kid, back when it was Christina Wan's.
- Admittedly, when I was in elementary school, I would accidentally spell it "Christina Juanes," and my siblings will never let me forget it.
The latest: I hadn't been to the restaurant since its rebrand back to its original name, Wan's, under Christina's nephew and chef Alex Kuk, so Sunday night was my first time back.
The vibe: It's exactly how I remembered. The restaurant was packed and you could smell the delicious classic Chinese dishes being brought out steaming from the kitchen.
What we ordered: I snacked on way too many fried wonton strips and my fiancé, Josh, started with a classic wonton soup, which he said was packed with flavor.
- We didn't want to fill up before the main event of half Peking duck, beef chow fun and walnut shrimp, so we ordered only the shrimp dumplings as an appetizer, which were a hit.
- They were very fresh and paired with a delicious, creamy peanut sauce.
State of plate: The duck was super tender and moist with a tasty, crispy skin. I don't like when the pieces are very fatty, so I was very happy.
- I wrapped my duck with scallion and cucumber for the perfect added crunch. You can't forget to add the hoisin sauce.
- As a self-proclaimed beef chow fun expert, I approved. The noodles were saucy and perfectly silky. The onions were crunchy and the meat was tender.
- The shrimp was tasty with a buttery garlic sauce.
💭 Our thought bubble: Josh summed it up perfectly: "It doesn't get much better than this."
The bottom line: Wan's is still serving some of the best (if not the best) Chinese food in South Florida — just like I remembered.
