Residents can still apply for 2023 flood recovery aid

Flashback: Beginning on April 12, 2023, a 1-in-1,000-year rain event brought historic rainfall totals and flash flooding to South Florida, particularly Broward County.

• Fort Lauderdale experienced the rainiest day in its history, which closed the airport for more than 48 hours, forced drivers to leave their cars behind, shut down schools and resulted in hundreds of calls for service.

By the numbers: The $88-million assistance program, which officially opened on May 27, will be able to serve approximately 270 households, a city spokesperson told Axios.
