The rockets' red glare gave proof through the night that residents were fed up with their neighbors blasting July Fourth fireworks during a Stage 2 fire ban.
Driving the news: Law enforcement across Douglas County tell Axios they logged more than 800 fireworks-related complaints over the holiday and issued at least 65 warnings, citations or summonses.
Why it matters: The ban intended to lower wildfire risk, but complaint figures indicate plenty of people lit up anyway.
By the numbers:
💥 The Douglas County Sheriff's Office got 352 complaints between July 3–5 (until 3am), but 200 locations couldn't be found because callers didn't give an address or a location.
Deputies gave 51 warnings.
They didn't cite or arrest anyone.
💥 Parker Police reported 238 fireworks-related complaint calls between 5pm July 4 and 3am July 5.
The department issued eight summonses.
💥 Castle Rock Police logged 204 fireworks-related calls, including 181 on July 4.
Officers handed out two citations and four written warnings.
💥 Lone Tree Police received 20 calls.
No citations were given.
The big picture:Complaints were frequent. Citations weren't.
