The lowdown: What's happening this weekend in Colorado Springs

This weekend, Colorado celebrates its 150th birthday and local organizations are hosting back-to-school events, so don't miss the action.

🎒 Victory World Outreach at 3150 S. Academy Blvd. is hosting a back-to-school event at 7pm Friday with 300 free backpacks, live music and free haircuts, as well as face painting and food. Free.

🎸 The United We Rock Festival takes place 2-8pm Saturday at Rock Ledge Ranch. The event includes live music, food trucks, arts and crafts vendors, beer and whiskey tastings, and more. Tickets start at $26.90.

☀️ Pikes Peak will host special programs Saturday, including sunrise experiences and, for the first time, sunset summit events.

The city's parks department is hosting a Guinness World Records attempt at the summit on Saturday to set the record for the most people simultaneously dunking a doughnut in coffee. Reservations recommended.

🍳 The fourth annual Indian Food Festival takes place at Liberty High School starting at noon Saturday. Expect street food, desserts, live music and other cultural performances. Admission is free.

X The YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region is hosting a Back 2 School Bash for military families and Southeast residents. The event starts at 1pm Saturday at Southeast YMCA for military families and 3:30pm for other families in the community. Free.
