The search for a good place for coffee and remote work never really ends.
Yes, but: We found two wonderful downtown spots where the ambiance is as good as the caffeine fix.
BLK MGK
The high ceilings, warm wood paneling and mid-modern decor make the BLK MGK coffee bar an ideal place to think creatively.
- Inside the Mining Exchange Hotel on South Nevada Avenue, the tables are spacious, with options for individual work or groups.
- Soft music on rotation ranged from the Lumineers to other vibey tunes that didn't distract.
If you go: Order a drip coffee for a reasonable $3 or splurge on a "potion," as the menu calls it, such as a s'mores latte or a cappuccino with lavender and white chocolate.
- The breakfast menu is so-so, but you can linger for lunch or even a cocktail in the late afternoon.
Homa Cafe + Bar
The Kinship Landing complex connects visitors with locals in a hospitality-minded, community-first boutique hotel. And it's Homa Cafe + Bar on the main level that reinforces the laid-back vibe.
- Sit at the bar, or better yet, at a high-top railing with a mountain view, where you can people-watch along South Nevada Avenue.
- If you want a little coziness, snuggle into one of the booths or perch in a hanging bird's nest chair.
- The space is modern but comfortable with plants and natural light. It's mostly quiet, but a video chat would not disturb most guests.
If you go: The coffee menu is straightforward and the restaurant serves breakfast until 3pm as well as lunch and dinner, all made with fresh ingredients.
