The El Paso County Sheriff's Office has a new very good boy on the force: K-9 Amp.
Why it matters: Amp, a 5-year-old Labrador retriever, is the department's first bomb-sniffing dog — a major upgrade for public safety, per KRDO.
State of play: Unlike patrol dogs, Amp is trained to detect explosives and signal quietly, without barking or scratching — reducing the risk of triggering anything dangerous.
K9 Amp has already been put to work, assisting with security sweeps for the president and secretary of defense.
