New technology is helping Coca-Cola Consolidated improve efficiency and safety in its local operations.

Here's how: The facility has introduced 24 laser-guided vehicles (LGVs), replacing its previous automated guided vehicles.

• These driverless forklifts move products throughout the warehouse and into a 13-story automated "High Rise" storage system that can hold up to 1.3 million cases before they're shipped to the distribution center.
• The LGVs are bigger, heavier and faster than the previous technology. Reflectors on the walls, sensors on the robots and a specially designed black floor allow the vehicles to move safely in all directions.

One example: The company partnered with Gleaners Food Bank to distribute 35,000 meals as part of an America250 initiative, helping families facing food insecurity.
