Baby Days offer art appreciation for the diaper crowd

• My son was roughly in the middle of the pack at 10 months. The oldest baby was 17 months, while a few newborns appeared to snooze through the whole thing.

How it works: A very kind guide led us through the galleries, giving parents and caregivers simple prompts along the way — look for a certain color or find objects beginning with a particular letter.

• My son still can't tell you the difference between a Renoir and a Monet, but he seemed intrigued by the chiffon handkerchief he was handed — and even more intrigued by the other babies.

What I liked: It was nice to experience the museum without worrying that every squeal or babble was disturbing someone else's quiet afternoon.

• We ended at the Rosenthal Education Center, where my son happily played with little plastic shapes on a light-up board.

The bottom line: Baby Days won't turn your infant into an art critic. But it was a low-pressure, baby-friendly way to get out of the house.
