Covington's 6 'N the Mornin' well worth the brunch wait

I finally made it to a Southern-style brunch at 6 'N The Mornin' in Covington after twice bailing because of the wait.
I blamed my previous misses on Cincinnati Music Festival weekend and a Reds homestand, but apparently this place just stays busy.
The big picture: 6 'N The Mornin' started as a Kenwood takeout spot in 2022 before opening a full-service restaurant in East Walnut Hills. Its new home sits at the base of Embassy Suites on East Rivercenter Boulevard.
- But don't worry, this doesn't feel like a hotel restaurant.
The vibe: Two bright dining rooms, one centered around the bar, feature big windows, colorful art and a soundtrack heavy on R&B, hip-hop and '90s pop.
- This time, I snagged a seat at the first come, first served bar.
- There's tons of outdoor seating, too, but sadly no river view.
The brunch menu: The restaurant serves more than brunch, but that's what everyone I know goes for.
- Options include salmon croquettes ($21), chicken and waffles ($20), lamb chops and grits ($34) and French toast ($20).
- Feeling wild? There's also a $65 seafood platter.
Best bites: At my server's suggestion, I ordered the $21 New Orleans shrimp and grits and added lightly fried catfish ($8).
- The grits were creamy and cheesy. The whole thing was a little salty, though still delicious.
It isn't brunch without mimosas: Mine was fine but small, with several flavors available.
If you go: 7am–10pm Sunday-Wednesday and 7am–midnight Thursday-Saturday. Menu.
