Cincinnati Animal Care needs your help after record rescue

A local animal shelter needs your help making room for 150 animals rescued from a Cincinnati home last week.
Why it matters: Cincinnati Animal CARE is asking people to adopt or foster animals already there to free up space for the new arrivals.
Catch up quick: Dog wardens acting on a tip removed dogs, cats, rabbits, reptiles and other animals from a Westwood house.
- It's the largest single seizure Cincinnati Animal CARE has handled since taking over county shelter and dog warden services in 2020.
State of play: The rescued animals aren't available for adoption yet, shelter spokesperson Lisa Colina tells Axios in an email.
- Shelter staff are checking the animals for health issues including fleas, mites and upper respiratory illness.
- "The animals are doing well! Many have gone into foster homes following medical evaluations and vaccinations," Colina writes.
The investigation is ongoing, and no decision has been made on potential charges for the property owner, Cincinnati Animal CARE wrote in a news release.
Other ways to help: The shelter's "wish list" includes rabbit and rat food and supplies, reptile and poultry supplies, small-animal cages, litter and bedding.
- It's already raised over $24,000 in recent online donations.
- Colina notes they're "so grateful" for the outpouring of community support.
