Fork Around and Find Out: Danny Boy proves less is more

I've heard people rave about Danny Boy in Mariemont, so I finally stopped in to see what all the fuss was about.

Why it matters: In an era of over-the-top sandwiches piled sky-high with toppings, Danny Boy stands out by doing less — and doing it really well.

Zoom in: Owner Dan Souder designed Danny Boy to fill multiple neighborhood needs, serving grab-and-go lunches, full-service dinners, catering and pantry staples under one roof.

The goal was creating the kind of place he wanted in the neighborhood where he lives and where his kids go to school.

What I ordered: The Timmy Ray ($16), which also happens to be owner Dan Souder's favorite.

"I mean, we sell the beef in steak form at like $35 a pound. It's really high quality Black Angus, being released to make these sandwiches," he tells Axios.
The shop starts with whole Black Angus tri-tip, marinates and roasts it to medium-rare before chilling and shaving it thin. The beef is piled onto bread with giardiniera, aioli and a drizzle of hot oil.

My take: The Timmy Ray isn't flashy. It's just a really, really good roast beef sandwich where the quality of the meat does the heavy lifting — and after one bite, I understood why people are such big fans.
