Boulder Mayor Aaron Brockett wins reelection

Driving the news: Brockett defeated a crowded field that included City Council member Taishya Adams, Jameson "Jamo" Goldstein, Lisa Ann Jacobs, Aquiles La Grave and "Grateful" Fred Smith, according to the Boulder County Clerk and Recorder's Office.

• Elected in 2023, Brockett became Boulder's first directly elected mayor.

• The city uses ranked-choice voting for its mayoral elections, allowing voters to rank candidates in order of preference rather than selecting just one.

By the numbers: Brockett received 12,878 first-choice votes (49%), just short of the majority needed to win outright.

• Smith and Goldstein were eliminated in the first two rounds, and redistributed votes pushed Brockett over the 50% threshold in the third round.
• Results from the county clerk's office showed he finished the ranked choice process with 13,158 votes — just 116 more than needed to win.

Zoom out: La Grave finished second with 7,079 first-choice votes (27.14%), followed by City Council member Taishya Adams with 4,719 (18.09%).

Flashback: Brockett's first victory in 2023 was a nail-biter. He trailed Bob Yates in first-choice votes before pulling ahead a day after the election as ranked-choice votes were redistributed.

• This time, Brockett entered with a commanding lead, capturing 49% of first-choice votes, compared with 35% in 2023. He secured a majority after three rounds.
