Remi's opens in Lafayette serving Cajun fare

• The 60-seat restaurant is owned by Dara Sanchez-Mack, who spent 15 years in hospitality, with Colorado native Napoleon Lewis leading the kitchen.

What to expect: Think gumbo, jambalaya, crawfish étouffée, shrimp and grits, po'boys and muffulettas.

• Other menu highlights include New Orleans BBQ shrimp, fried green tomato BLTs, Creole loaded fries and "Voodoo Wings," a sticky, sweet-and-spicy Cajun sauce.

The vibe: Remi's is leaning into more than Louisiana cooking, billing itself as a community gathering place with Southern hospitality, music and events.

🗯️ My thought bubble: Cajun food isn't a culinary niche I'm particularly familiar with, so I can't tell you whether Remi's would pass muster on the bayou.

• But I can tell you that I ordered the catfish Pontchartrain, and it's very yummy — moist and flaky fish in a sauce that's flavorful without overpowering the ingredients.

If you go: Remi's is open 11am–11pm Thursday through Monday and closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
