Some Lafayette firefighters and wildlife officers found themselves on an unusual ride-along last week.

Driving the news: Lafayette dispatchers received a report of a snapping turtle snagged and tangled in fishing line at Waneka Lake last week.
Lafayette Police Chief Brian Rosipajla told us two firefighters and an animal control officer borrowed a flamingo pedal boat from a nearby rental boathouse.
What ensued was an exceedingly slow police pursuit that, thankfully for us, was caught on camera and posted by Lafayette police.
The animal control officer captured the snapping turtle, and it was sent to a wildlife rehab center.
💭 My thought bubble: We should equip all animal control and state park rangers with pedal boats: Unicorns, swans, flamingos, preferably with sirens on top.
