About a decade ago, an exotic visitor turned Nederland into a ring-tailed circus.

Flashback: A lemur — yes, the exotic primate from Madagascar — bit a girl at the town's Carousel of Happiness.

• As police investigated, they discovered the primate's owner had been using the protected animal as a tiny wingman about town.
• Oliver, as the lemur was apparently named, ended up at a primate sanctuary in Florida.

State of play: We tried to track Oliver down this week, but hit a dead end.

• The sanctuary has changed names, scrubbed most of its social media and didn't answer calls to its listed number.
• Hopefully, Oliver is enjoying his retirement in the Florida sunshine.

Behind the scenes: The scanner call about a girl bitten by a lemur wasn't quite as shocking as you'd think.

• Then again, this is Nederland. Spotting a lemur these days might just lead you to assume you've found another Jimothy.
