Pattern Break Brewing brings inventive beers to Boulder

Pattern Break Brewing opened last weekend in the former Sanitas Brewing spot, pouring a bevy of new and exciting beers in a familiar setting.
State of play: Pattern Break Brewing — whose co-founder also helped launch Sanitas Brewing — signed a five-year lease at 3550 Frontier Ave.
- The catch: The building is likely to be demolished as part of an arts district development.
The vibe: The watering hole has a new name and logo, but kept its large dog- and family-friendly patio intact.
- Expect firepits, benches and plenty of patio furniture, making the spot a great fair-weather hangout.
What's new: One thing that has changed is the beer menu, with Pattern Break bringing in brewers from Golden's Cannonball Creek and the former Call to Arms Brewing to spice up the offerings.
- There's a selection of standard IPAs and lagers, but the menu also featured a Negroni IPA, a mai tai lager and even a beet beer.
My thought bubble: The best beer on tap, and honestly one of the best beers I've had in a while, was a horchata lager.
- The brewery also has a wide selection of nonalcoholic options, including a very good spicy blood orange margarita.
Dig in: Also making its debut Saturday was the brewery's food menu.
- The on-site food truck's special is a $7 smashburger that reminds me of classic diner fare: just a simple cheeseburger with pickles and special sauce.
The big picture: Pattern Break's lease situation might mean it's here for a good time, not a long time.
- But if they can keep cranking out new and exciting beers, it will surely find a spot when the time comes for a move.
