Boulder County ADU builder to start franchising

Driving the news: Studio Home said its franchise system will allow regional operators and general contractors to deliver backyard ADUs, tiny homes, detached studios and multi-unit housing projects.

• Franchisees will get pre-construction support, technical training, centralized logistics, marketing tools and territory development guidance.
• The company also plans to roll out several new housing designs later this spring, including tiny home models and an L-shaped configuration with a gable roof.
• Studio Home said qualified operators could launch in 60–90 days.

Context: Formerly known as Studio Shed, the company was founded in 2008 in Louisville, and has delivered more than 6,500 structures across North America.

Flashback: In 2023, Boulder eased its ADU restrictions to address ongoing housing shortages.

• The state also passed a law in 2024 making it easier for homeowners to build ADUs, leading Boulder County communities like Lafayette and Superior to update existing laws.
