Boulder County's clerk joined others last week in calling out Colorado Gov. Jared Polis over his unwillingness to speak out against transferring Tina Peters to federal custody.
Context: The Trump administrationsent a letter to Colorado's Department of Corrections (CDOC) earlier this month requesting that Peters be transferred to federal custody — a move that could lead to her release.
Peters was sentenced to nine years in prison for allowing fellow election deniers access to local voting systems, and cannot be pardoned by Trump because she was convicted on state charges.
State of play: The Colorado County Clerks Association earlier this month issued a letter and then last week held a virtual press conference calling out Polis for not publicly condemning Trump and Peters.
Boulder County Clerk Molly Fitzpatrick was among those on the video call, and said "Polis' indecision, or his refusal to publicly address the decision, is already causing harm to clerks across Colorado."
Threat level: Fitzpatrick said clerks across the state have seen "an immediate spike in hostility."
