Lyons gets a new wine bar with a community twist

Context: Husband-and-wife duo Ryan Wicker and Lisa Wicker-Kaufmann bought the building in 2022 when longtime community staple The Stone Cup closed.

• The building initially housed a Moxie Bread on one side and a tapas place on the other. But when the tapas place left this year, Wicker-Kaufmann said the couple decided to pursue their "passion project" and open a wine bar.
• "We just decided to make the leap," she told Axios Boulder.

What to expect: Wicker-Kaufmann, once the longtime chief of staff for Gov. Jared Polis, said she modeled Lyons Locale after Cured — a now-closed cheese and wine shop — in Boulder.

• Lyons Locale's menu offers a variety of wines and charcuterie boards.
• Not a wine fan? The bar also offers a variety of custom cocktails and local brews.

💭 My thought bubble: At the advice of the bartender, I got a lychee cocktail. It was a tasty reminder of home, though I could not bring myself to eat the edible flower garnish.

The vibe: Wicker-Kaufmann told us she moved to Lyons about 10 years ago after getting one of the town's golf cart tours following the 2013 flood: "Now my kids go to school by golf cart."

• Wicker-Kaufmann said that community feel is what she wants to have at Lyons Locale. Even though it's a wine bar, the location has board games and a children's play area to cater to young families.
• She said they are also hoping to hold events in the space and become a community hub.
