CU Boulder alums to watch at NFL training camp

State of play: Both were named in The Athletic's players to watch list for this year's training camp, which gets underway Tuesday for many teams.

• 🐆 As a top pick and the first player in decades to come into the league with real two-way potential, it's no surprise to see Hunter listed as the Jacksonville Jaguars' player to watch.
• 🦴 Naming a fifth-round pick as the Cleveland Browns' player to watch seemed notable — unless, of course, you've watched any sports coverage in the last four months. Sanders might be the most-talked-about offseason story in pro football, not just in Cleveland.

Context: Sanders, a projected first-round pick going into the NFL draft, fell into a four-way competition to be the next name on the Cleveland Browns' quarterback merry-go-round.

• The Browns this offseason also signed veteran Joe Flacco, traded for former first-round pick Kenny Pickett, and took Dillon Gabriel in the draft two rounds ahead of Sanders.
• Teams rarely keep more than three quarterbacks on their roster, likely leaving an odd man out once the season starts.

Yes, but: Reports were positive coming out of minicamp, with The Athletic's Zac Jackson writing that Sanders "showed in the spring that he's capable of throwing with touch and accuracy."

Caveat: ESPN's Jeremy Fowler said Sanders was mostly working against third-string defenses and has "a ways to go."

What's next: The Browns play their first preseason game Aug. 8.
