One of the victims injured in Boulder's fiery Pearl Street attack earlier this month has died, and prosecutors announced they are filing additional charges — including first-degree murder.
The latest: Karen Diamond, 82, died as a result of injuries sustained in the June 1 attack, the Boulder County District Attorney's Office announced in a press release Monday.
- Diamond died last Wednesday, according to the Daily Camera.
- The suspect, Mohamed Soliman, was initially charged with 118 counts in state court in connection to the firebombing.
- The two attempted murder charges associated with Diamond have now been upgraded to murder counts, which would both carry a life sentence without parole if Soliman is found guilty.
Prosecutors also filed 66 additional charges related to 14 newly named victims.
- The amended complaint names a total of 29 victims in the attack, 13 of whom suffered physical injury, per the Boulder DA.
- Soliman is now charged with two counts of first degree murder, 52 counts of attempted first degree murder, eight counts of first degree assault, 18 counts of attempted first degree assault and two counts of third degree assault.
- He also faces two counts of using an incendiary device, 16 counts of attempted use of an incendiary device and one count of animal cruelty.
What they're saying: "This horrific attack has now claimed the life of an innocent person who was beloved by her family and friends," Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty said in a statement Monday. "Our hearts are with the Diamond family during this incredibly difficult time."
- Boulder City Council also released a statement: "This is an unfathomable loss for our Jewish community, still reeling from this act of hatred and violence, and we stand with them in support and solidarity."
Catch up quick: Last week, he was indicted on new hate crime and explosives charges, including nine hate-crime counts, two charges that he used explosives to carry out a felony, and one count of carrying an explosive during the commission of a felony.
What's next: Soliman, 45, is due to appear in state court on July 15.
