Get started hiking in Colorado this summer

• So I asked Kylie Bearse, the founder of the hiking website and community Approachable Outdoors, for tips for those who are just getting started or new to Colorado.
• "There's room on the trails for everyone and it doesn't take much to take that first step," said Bearse, who is also a Fox 31 meteorologist and a University of Colorado graduate.

🥾 Start small: "Don't aim for a 14er or that technical hike that's been blowing up your social media; find a beginner-friendly trail and see how it feels," Bearse said. "Look for hikes 1–2 miles with low elevation gain."

💰 Don't spend a ton: "A solid pair of sneakers, workout clothes and a good water bottle are more than enough to get you started."

📕 Do some research: "Take a few minutes to read up on trail etiquette and Leave No Trace. Knowing simple trail protocol, like yielding to uphill hikers, will help you feel confident and avoid dirty looks from locals."

Here are a few beginner trails around Boulder to get you started:

⛰️ Baseline Trail, 1.2 miles, 337 feet elevation gain: "Get the best views of Chautauqua without the tough trek uphill. This quick loop brings you through the gorgeous meadows with views of the Flatirons with every step."

🌸 Castle/Meadow Trail, 2.2 miles, 259 feet elevation gain: "Perfect for beginners with gorgeous wildflowers in late spring and early summer."
