Coming soon to a ballot near you…
- Taxes!
- Trains!
- Teachers!
Why it matters: Voters will face decisions that'll impact our wallets, local services and communities for years to come.
🎥 The big picture: November's ballot issues could fill a movie marquee.
- Here's your preview, with a little Tinsletown zhuzh.
🏙️ Aurora: "Field of Dreams"
Build it, and they will come…
- …but first, somebody has to pay.
Follow the money: Measures 3A, 3B and 3C propose $264.5 million in borrowing — excluding interest — for roads, libraries, rec centers and public safety facilities.
- The cost: A combined 0.325-percentage-point increase in sales and use taxes.
🚗 Centennial: "Cars"
Ka-chow!
- Centennial says it needs at least $35 million annually for transportation infrastructure but collects just $15 million in dedicated revenue.
How it works: Measure 2A would raise the city's sales and use tax from 2.5% to 3.5%, generating an estimated $27 million annually.
- That's another $1 per $100 in taxable purchases.
- Yes, but: "Our roads are in good shape," Councilmember Don Sheehan wrote this week, arguing the city already has enough maintenance money.
🍎 Littleton: "School of Rock"
Class is in session.
Catch up quick: Measure 4A seeks another $10 million per year through higher property taxes to boost employee pay and to prevent school calendar cuts.
- The cost: About $150 more annually in property taxes for a $600,000 home, the district estimates.
🏡 Cherry Hills Village: "The Castle"
Home sweet home.
- But who makes the rules?
Friction point: Charter Amendment 2C would let Cherry Hills Village assert local zoning authority and try to sidestep conflicting state housing mandates.
- The amendment wouldn't automatically override state law, and a court challenge could follow.
🚞 Greenwood Village and Englewood: "Planes, Trains and Automobiles"
All aboard?
- Colorado wants to build a passenger rail network, and voters in these cities and others could help make it happen.
By the numbers: Measure 7A proposes a 0.333% regional sales and use tax — about 33 cents per $100 in taxable purchases.
Plot twist: About 262,000 Arapahoe County voters mistakenly received Measure 7A, while roughly 340 Columbine Valley voters didn't get the question.
Be smart: Return your ballot as usual.
- Voters missing the question can use a corrected ballot. Only eligible 7A votes will count.
🗳️ Arapahoe County: "Election"
This ain't a student council election.
Case in point: Sheriff Tyler Brown faces Kevin Edling.
- Commissioners Jessica Campbell and Leslie Summey seek re-election against Carl Schuldies and Sonda Banka, respectively.
🎬 The bottom line: Credits roll Nov. 3.
