Florida's chief financial officer wants to hire a cryptocurrency chief

Florida's chief financial officer, Jimmy Patronis, announced Tuesday the creation of a new position to oversee the state's cryptocurrency activities.

Why it matters: Regulators are increasingly appointing officials to specifically oversee the industry and combat scams and tax fraud within their jurisdictions. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission just appointed its own cryptocurrency chief.
