Color Genomics, a Silicon Valley startup that provides genetic tests for consumers, has secured $52 million of what is expected to be an $80 million funding round.
Doctor disintermediation: Founded in 2013, Color Genomics sells genetics testing kits that screen for hereditary high cholesterol and common hereditary cancers. It's part of a growing industry of companies, like 23andMe, providing health services and information to patients that were previously only available through doctors.
Deal details: CRV and existing investors General Catalyst and Emerson Collective co-led the new round. The company previously raised around $60 million, with other shareholders including Khosla Ventures, Formation 8 and Eric Schmidt's Innovation Endeavors.
