Canadian lawmakers passed comprehensive marijuana legalization Tuesday, USA Today reports, making Canada the first wealthy nation in the world to fully legalize the drug.
The details: The measure, expected to go into effect in September, gives adults the green light on marijuana possession, home growing, and sales. Meanwhile, the federal government will continue to oversee broad criminal violations, such as sales to minors, and licensing of producers, per Vox, but provincial governments will have the power to tighten local rules.
