Tens of thousands of Oregon teachers walked out on Wednesday while wearing red shirts to demand better funding for public schools, reports AP.
The state of play: The teachers aren't asking for better pay, but want to highlight the poor conditions of the schools. Republicans in Oregon recently blocked a $2 billion education plan that would tax its wealthiest residents, reports The Oregonian.
The backdrop: Teachers around the nation have been protesting for better pay, more school funding, smaller class sizes and fewer standardized tests. Protests took place earlier this year in North Carolina, South Carolina, Colorado, West Virginia and Arizona.
