Nebraska AG subpoenas records of child sex abuse from 400 Catholic churches

Nebraska law enforcement requested that more than 400 Catholic churches and instituions turn over records related to child sexual abuse committed by people employed by or associated with the Church as part of an investigation, the state's Justice Department said Tuesday.

Why it matters: This comes as the Catholic Church grapples with child sex abuse scandals around the globe. Meanwhile, a growing number of dioceses in the U.S. have been releasing names of clergy members who have been credibly accused of sexually abusing children, and a wave of state attorneys general are looking into possible sexual abuse and coverups.
