Florida sheriff suspended for negligence during Parkland shooting
Newly-elected Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has suspended Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel for "repeated incompetence and neglect of duty" during the Parkland school shooting that left 17 dead last February, NBC News reports.
The big picture: Israel drew heavy criticism for inaction in the aftermath of the Parkland massacre, with 23 previous tips about the shooter apparently going unnoticed by the Sheriff's Office. DeSantis appointed former Coral Springs police Sgt. Gregory Tony as Israel's replacement.
