Trump says he rejected meeting with Canada's Trudeau

President Trump said in a press conference today in New York that he rejected a request for a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the United Nations General Assembly because "his tariffs are too high and he doesn't seem to want to move and I told him to forget about it."

Why it matters: This is an extraordinary insult to a close ally on a global stage, and comes as the U.S. is negotiating with Canada over a trade deal to replace NAFTA. Trump said his team was "not getting along well at all with their negotiators," and threatened to tax all cars coming in from Canada if a deal isn't reached. He said the deal would "probably or possibly" include only the U.S. and Mexico, though there's stiff resistance to such an outcome on Capitol Hill.
