To do what seemed to be the impossible and clench a victory over one of the most powerful Democrats in Congress, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez did things a little differently.
The big picture: Ocasio-Cortez didn't have the strong support of the Democratic party. Per the AP, she "built her team from the ranks of burgeoning progressive and social causes, ... worked house parties and political rallies to recruit people," and more.
The details of Ocasio-Cortez's campaign, per the AP: Her campaign manager is Virginia Ramos Rios, who came with "a background in insurance marketing and energy healing."
- The neighborhood campaign captain was Naureen Akhter, "co-founder of a progressive Muslim group and part-time food blogger."
- Her campaign posters were made by friend and former restaurant co-worker Jesse Korman, who told her to "express her passion and confidence" through the photos even after a long day of campaigning.
- Volunteers were out in the community, talking to voters on the street and organizing phone-a-thons and fundraisers. They worked from an office "that shared a building with a tattoo parlor and a palm reading shop."
"Respect the hustle. We won bc we out-worked the competition. Period."ā Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter
